Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Banning liquor in religious towns in the state is one of the priorities of the government. By taking this decision, the government will not only respect the religious sentiments of devotees but also provide a positive direction to the excise policy.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made the statement in reply to a post written by former chief minister Uma Bharti on social media, on Wednesday.

Uma has expressed her gratitude to Yadav for the decision on banning liquor in religious towns. Uma wrote that the policy of banning liquor, announced two years ago by the BJP government, was for public welfare as well as for practical purpose.

According to Uma, the state is going towards complete ban on liquor, and prohibiting liquor in religious towns is a step towards this direction. Yadav is going to announce the ban on liquor in the cabinet meeting to be held in Maheshwar on Friday. There are plans to organise some events on the issue after the cabinet decision.

According to sources, the government is going to impose a complete ban on liquor in Ujjain, Datia, Panna and other places. After the ban on sale of liquor, the government may also make provisions for punishment for consuming liquor. During Simhastha, liquor is banned in Ujjain, but the government is set to impose a permanent ban on liquor in religious towns.
