Bajaj Auto has started the new calendar year by removing three motorcycles from its portfolio. The company has decided to discontinue the Pulsar F250, Platina 110 ABS (ABS variant only), and CT 125X.

price of discontinued motorcycles

  1. Pulsar F250: Ex-showroom price around ₹1.5 lakh.
  2. CT 125X:
    • Drum variant: ₹73,000.
    • Disc variant: ₹77,000.
  3. Platina 110 ABS: Ex-showroom price around ₹79,000.

Causes and background

Bajaj has not clarified the reasons for discontinuing these motorcycles, but it is believed that their sales were less than expected.

  • Pulsar F250:
    • It was introduced as the successor to the Pulsar 220F.
    • However, buyers showed more interest in the Pulsar 220F, which led Bajaj to relaunch the 220F.
    • The F250’s lack of quality components, such as USD forks, may also affect its sales.
  • CT 125X:
    • It was considered to be India’s strongest 125cc commuter motorcycle.
    • Powerful design and affordable price (110cc price with 125cc performance) were its specialties, but it could not achieve the expected popularity.
  • Platina 110 ABS:
    • It was the only 110cc commuter motorcycle available with ABS in India.
    • But buyers in this segment were not interested in spending extra money for safe braking.

Bajaj’s current portfolio

The company lists several Pulsar models on its website, which include:

  • Pulsar NS400z, Pulsar N125, Pulsar RS200, Pulsar 220F, Pulsar NS200, Pulsar N160, Pulsar 150, and Pulsar 125.
  • Bajaj is preparing to launch the updated Pulsar RS200, which will provide better options to the customers.

Segment Features and Challenges

  1. CT 125X:
    • It was placed above the CT 110X.
    • Despite being robust and economical, it failed to attract customers.
  2. Platina 110 ABS:
    • Despite being a unique product with ABS, it had to be discontinued due to price and segment buyer preferences.
  3. Pulsar F250:
    • The lack of high-end features and customer preference towards the 220F affected its market performance.
