On this day, devotees especially worship the old form of Lord Hanuman. This year Bada Mars will start from Tuesday, 13 May 2025. A total of five big Mars will fall in this month.

It is said that when Lord Shri Ram was wandering in the search of Mother Sita, he met Bajrangbali on Tuesday of Jyeshtha month. For this reason, this day holds special importance and is considered superior to get the special grace of Lord Hanuman.

Prasad distribution tradition of Bada Mangal and Mughal emperor

The tradition of Prasad distribution and Bhandare on the occasion of Bada Mangal in Lucknow is associated with Mughal Emperor Nawab Mohammad Wajid Ali Shah. Once, the health of Nawab’s son deteriorated extremely. Despite all the remedies, when the situation did not improve, someone advised to pray in the ancient Hanuman temple in Aliganj. The Nawab devoutly prayed in the temple, and his son’s health was surprising.

Expressing gratitude from this incident, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah renovated the temple, whose work was completed in the eldest month. In the memory of this auspicious work, he started distributing jaggery offerings across Lucknow on Tuesday. This tradition continues even today, and on the day of Bada Mangal of Lucknow, there is a grand system of distribution and stores among the devotees.
