Actor Babil Khan’s mother Sutapa Sikdar recently stated that he is on the verge of depression due to relentless comparisons with his late father, the legendary Irrfan Khan. At an event in Lucknow, Sutapa opened up about Babil’s mental health struggles and stated that he should be given space so that he can carve his own path.
Sutapa also likened Babil’s journey to that of Abhishek Bachchan, who faced similar pressures living in the shadow of his iconic father, Amitabh Bachchan.
Sutapa said, “There’s a lot of pressure on Babil, and I am not okay with it. This pressure should not be there, Irrfan never had that pressure and when you don’t put any pressure on yourself, your individuality comes out. It’s not only about work but also about losing the father figure, he is almost in depression. Top that with this stress and compression all the time. As a mother, I feel, ‘Please leave my child alone’.”
“Also, he is very vulnerable and does not have a fighter’s spirit. His father was very strong and so am I, but genetically it must have come from somewhere,” Babil’s mother added.
Comparing Babil to Abhishek, she further mentioned, “Like, Abhishek Bachchan did amazing work in I Want to Talk but wahi hai…comparisons with legendary Amitabh Bachchan have worked against him. I feel Babil is going through a similar ordeal. I just hope he overcomes it soon.”
Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29, 2020, at the age of 53 after a two-year battle with a neuroendocrine tumour. Babil often shares unseen pictures and anecdotes from their family life on social media.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Babil made his acting debut with Qala, which premiered on Netflix alongside Triptii Dimri in the lead. He was last seen in The Railway Men starring R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, and Divyenndu.
Next, he has Shoojit Sircar’s production The Umesh Chronicles.
