From today onwards, the official launch of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is starting in Delhi. This initiative is considered to be very important for those families of the capital, who were out of reach of expensive health services till now. A memorandum (MoU) will be signed between the Center and the Delhi government today, which will establish a strong partnership towards effectively implementing the plan and benefiting the economically weaker sections.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will sign MoU
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has informed that an agreement will be reached with the central government on Saturday. He said that this scheme will bring a big change in the direction of health services in the capital and the needy families will get better treatment facilities. The decision was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on Friday, in which senior officials of the Health Department also attended.
Annual health insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh
Under this scheme, eligible families of Delhi will get free health insurance cover up to Rs 10 lakh annually. This includes an additional top-up of Rs 5 lakh from the central government and Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government. In the scheme, patients will get 1,961 types of health services such as checks, medicines, surgery, ICU care and hospitalization facilities free and cashless.
91 hospitals involved in the scheme
Currently, 91 hospitals in the capital have been listed under this scheme, including 46 private, 34 Delhi government and 11 central government hospitals. Initially, those who have Antyodaya Ann Yojana (Aay) cards will be given priority and their cards will be made first.
BJP government’s decision was approved
After the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Delhi, it was decided to implement this scheme. In February 2025, BJP returned to power after 26 years. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and his team took over on 20 February and the Ayushman Bharat scheme was approved in the first cabinet meeting.
