Mumbai’s young talent Ayush Mhatre has created history by becoming the youngest player to score 150+ runs in men’s List A cricket. At just 17 years and 168 days, he smashed 181 runs off 117 balls during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Nagaland. This feat broke Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record of 17 years and 291 days, set in 2019.
In his incredible knock, Mhatre hit 15 fours and 11 sixes, leading Mumbai to a massive total of 403/7 in 50 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi provided a strong start with 56 runs, while Shardul Thakur added fireworks at the end, scoring 73 off just 28 balls, including 8 sixes.
Nagaland’s bowlers struggled, with Dip Borah and Nagaho Chishi picking 3 and 2 wickets, respectively, but conceding plenty of runs.
In response, Nagaland faced early trouble, losing a wicket at just 7 runs. Sedezhalie Rupero managed 53 runs, while Jagdeesha Suchith fought hard with a valiant century. However, wickets kept falling, and Nagaland could only manage 213/9 in 50 overs, handing Mumbai a dominating 189-run victory.
Mumbai’s bowlers shone as Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets, while Royston Dias and Suryansh Shedge claimed 2 each. Siddesh Lad and Harsha Tanna picked up one wicket each.
Ayush Mhatre’s recent performance
Mhatre has been a standout performer since his debut earlier this season. He scored a half-century on his Ranji Trophy debut and followed it with a brilliant 176 against Maharashtra. Despite a few quiet games, he bounced back with a second first-class century (116 against Services).
He also represented India in the Under-19 Men’s Asia Cup, contributing crucial fifties against Japan and the UAE. Although India lost the final to Bangladesh, Mhatre’s performances solidified his reputation as a rising star.
With his Vijay Hazare Trophy exploits, Ayush Mhatre has proven to be a key player for Mumbai, showcasing his immense potential across formats.
