Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The state aviation department and Public Works Department are jointly looking for a suitable land to develop helipad near CM House and Vallabh Bhawan.

Besides, aviation department is working on a plan to develop helipad on campuses of big cities so that people face minimum traffic problem during VIP movement. For instance, if a VIP person has to go to Mandideep, then helipad on Barkatullah University campus will lessen the road distance till destination point.

Otherwise, there is road blockade from airport to Mandideep during VIP movement. The land in Raj Bhawan, Vallabh Bhawan, Vidhan Sabha and CM House are being considered for the purpose.

Once the location is selected, then a proposal will be presented before the chief secretary. There is also a proposal to have a helipad near Vidhan Sabha as it is located at a fairly good height, sources said. Deliberations are underway to have helipad at Police Training Institute in Kanha Saiya, AIIMS or any such institution, which has more than 100 acres of land.

The covered campus is good option because it doesn’t need security. Aviation department official said to have two or more helipads in Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior to minimise problems faced by people during VIP movement was also being considered.

Two motives

Additional chief secretary Sanjay Shukla said there were two motives behind the exercise. First is to expand aviation service, which can also be used during medical emergency and second is to minimise the problem faced by people during VIP movement.

As for developing helipad near CM House and Vallabh Bhawan is concerned, search is underway to identify the suitable land, he added.
