Mumbai: The Vanrai police have detained Rajratan Wayval, a 32-year-old autorickshaw driver, for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman. On January 21, Wayval reportedly assaulted a woman at a beach in Vasai. The next day, the woman was found unconscious near the Ram Mandir police station in the Goregaon East area.

According to the police, both the accused and the victim reside in Vasai East, but they did not know each other prior to the incident. The woman, who was reportedly in a depressed state, left her house contemplating suicide.

On the night of January 21, she encountered an unknown autorickshaw driver near Vasai railway station. The driver consoled her but then allegedly took her to a beach in Vasai, where he allegedly raped her.

The following day, the woman was discovered unconscious in Goregaon East. The crime took an even more horrifying turn when it was revealed that stones and blades had been inserted into her private parts, causing severe injuries.

A police officer stated, “The woman was scared to return home and inflicted harm on herself.” She was admitted to KEM Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

The Vanrai police registered the case under Section 64 (2) (m) (punishment for rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A search operation was launched, and Wayval was detained from a slum in Waliv.

Since the incident occurred in Arnala and the woman was reported missing from there, the Vanrai police have transferred the case to the Arnala police station.
