Hardcore non-vegetarian eaters and seafood lovers desire to taste live crabs and lobsters for a meal. Similarly, a woman named Reanna Ho and her group of eight visited a Chinese restaurant in Perth, Australia and asked to try out a “live lobster” on their plates. For a Friday night dinner, they checked in a the Canton Lane eatery and ordered a delicious serve of live lobster, only to realise later that it attracted a heavy bill.

Live lobster in Australia

A report in the New York Post stated that Reanna Ho was shocked by the bill that went soaring to nearly four digits of Australian dollars. She was handed a bill of amount $944.30 (INR 50,801.05) for the lobster dinner, which weighed 2.04 kg.

After enjoying the lobster and receiving a huge bill for it, Ho complained over the heavy rates levied on the seafood. She claimed that she wasn’t clearly informed about the charges at the time of placing the order for a live lobster. She posted on Facebook that the restaurant didn’t notify her of the terms and conditions towards the additional amount associated with the dish and its serving.

The mouthwatering crustacean was reportedly priced at an eye-watering $615 (INR 33,082.63).

The diners went ahead with five additional servings of noodles which increased the bill by $15 each.

Ho claimed restaurant didn’t inform her of additional charges

Ho slammed the restaurant for not openly letting them know about these additional charges. She stated that they weren’t told about the weight of the crustacean unless they asked for it after the shocking bill.

“We didn’t assume the lobster would be cheap, but based on common sense, the typical price per pound is usually around $60-$70,” she was quoted as saying in the news report. Ho found the skyrocketed price of the lobster ($120) unreasonable even if it weighed well and it was a peak season.

Bill paid

However, it was learned that Ho and her group paid the bill before exiting the eatery.

Commenting on the incident, the restaurant told the media that had been running it for years together without any issue: “We have been running this restaurant for 8 years and have been running it smoothly”.
