Attention Commuters! Ghodbunder Road Closure For Heavy Vehicles Extended Until May 1; Check Diversions Here | FPJ

Palghar, Maharashtra: The Thane-Ghodbunder Road will remain closed to all heavy vehicles until 11:55 pm on May 1, 2025, due to ongoing repairs being carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD), Thane. The closure, which was originally scheduled to end on April 29, has now been extended to accommodate continued maintenance work.

While heavy vehicles are strictly prohibited, light vehicles will be rerouted in phases, using the opposite (wrong) lane of the Ghodbunder-Thane carriageway under traffic management arrangements.

The Gaymukh Ghat area is expected to experience significant traffic congestion during this period. The traffic police have strictly warned against the unauthorized use of the wrong side of the road, particularly from Varsave Police Chowki to Nirakendra Ghat. Violators will face legal action and risk further delays and blockages.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Suhas Bawche stated that the diversions are necessary to prevent traffic jams and accidents, and to ensure public safety and convenience.

Motorists are advised to plan their travel in advance, follow diversion signs, and cooperate with traffic authorities during this brief but crucial road maintenance period.

Diversion Routes:

From Palghar-Virar (NH-48): Heavy vehicles are barred beyond Shirsat Phata, and will be diverted via Shirsat Phata → Parol → Akloli (Ganeshpuri) → Ambadi Road.

From Palghar-Vasai (NH-48): Heavy vehicles are barred beyond Chinchoti Naka, and will be diverted via Chinchoti → Kaman → Kharbao → Anjur Phata → Bhiwandi.

From Mumbai/Kashimira (Western Express Highway): Heavy vehicles are barred from Ghodbunder Road via Thane, and will be diverted via Versova Bridge → NH-48, and then follow the routes mentioned above.

Exemptions for Emergency Services

The traffic control order does not apply to essential service vehicles, including police vehicles, fire brigades, ambulances, oxygen transport tankers, and vehicles permitted by the district collectors or municipal commissioners of Mumbai, Thane, or Palghar. All other vehicles are expected to follow the restrictions and diversions strictly.
