Bashar Al Assad: An attempt has been made to assassinate former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He has been fatally attacked by poisoning him. On Sunday, Assad told his security personnel that ‘I am having trouble breathing and have sought help for treatment.’ Immediately after this he started coughing loudly and became nervous. Seeing this, he was given water, which brought some relief, but by the time the doctor arrived, his health started deteriorating.
The assassination attempt on Assad comes as media reports claim his relations with Putin have become strained. It is said that both the leaders do not trust each other but it was Putin who decided to free Assad from Syria and take him to Moscow. Telegram channel General SVR claimed to have poisoned former Syrian President Assad and said a team of doctors was deployed to his apartment to treat him.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s office was also briefed on Assad’s condition, with the Kremlin saying in an order that ‘all arrangements for his treatment should be made not in a hospital, but at his home.’
Bashar al-Assad’s situation now stable
Following Bashar al-Assad’s initial treatment, a medical team was deployed to his apartment for further care. The matter came to light on Sunday when Asad was at his home. However, as of Monday evening, the team of doctors treating Assad clarified that his condition is stable and already excellent. A sample was taken from Asad’s body and it was revealed that he had been poisoned.
The case of poisoning Assad is being investigated
The incident involving the former Syrian president is being investigated under the supervision of Nikolai Patrushev, a close aide of President Vladimir Putin, but it has not been confirmed how Assad was ultimately poisoned. Bashar al-Assad was forced to flee Syria last month after Tahrir al-Sham fighters captured the capital Damascus as well as key Assad-held cities.
Asad’s internal feud with wife Asma
After Assad left power, internal strife has started in his house. It is said that his wife Asma wanted to return to Britain but was stopped. His wife Asma was born in London but could not return home as her passport had expired. She is currently in Moscow with her husband Asad. Asma wants to return to London after fleeing Syria and is rumored to want a divorce from Assad.
