Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The district administration foiled an attempt of land sharks to grab government land worth Rs 40 crore by placing an idol of Dr. BR Ambedkar and a saint there. In a joint action on Thursday, the district administration and the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) removed the encroachment and freed the land, shifting the idols to another place.
However, Congress leaders criticized the action. The joint team of the district administration and IMC swung into action after a complaint was made to collector Asheesh Singh through Jansunvai. It is said that a land mafia of the city was involved in this encroachment on land located in survey number 644 of Piplyahana village.
SDM Ghanshyam Dhangar said the Patwari of Piplyahana submitted a report that the land was registered in the records as government charnoi land. The encroachers constructed two concrete platforms and installed statues on them on this land measuring 0.093 hectares. They also constructed toilets and tin sheds.
The market value of this land is more than Rs 40 crore. Local residents said that the land was used as a crematorium for children. Collector Ashesh Singh said, “We received a complaint about the encroachment on government land located in Pipliyahana area. Some idols were placed there which have been shifted to another place.” However, some Congress leaders, including former chief minister Digvijay Singh, raised questions over the action.
