Buxwaha (Madhya Pradesh): Traders put up their shutters in the Buxwaha area in Chhatarpur district on Thursday.
The closure of the market was in protest against the attack on a BJP leader and lawyer, Sitaram Rai, and a medical shop owner, Ramkumar Dubey, on Wednesday evening. Both sustained severe injuries in the attack.
According to the police, when the incident took place, Rai and Dubey were walking on the road. The attackers fled after committing the crime. Immediately after the incident, the businessmen blocked traffic on the highway. The road blockade continued for several hours.
Legislator Ramsiya Bharti, former legislator Pradyumnya Singh Lodhi, and BJP and Congress workers participated in the protest.
Bharti said the criminals were no more scared of the police and demanded the arrest of the culprits.
After staging a sit-in, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the district administration demanding the arrest of the culprits.
The protesters said if the police failed to arrest the attackers, they would intensify the agitation. The police registered a case against the unidentified criminals and began an inquiry into the incident.
But the police have yet to arrest any of the attackers. Superintendent of Police, Agam Jain, said he had set up a team to search for the attackers.
Nevertheless, locals are not satisfied with the police action.
