Nashik: ASI Objects To Marathi Actress Prajakta Mali’s Event At Trimbakeshwar Temple | Instagram

On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the controversy surrounding actress Prajakta Mali’s event at Trimbakeshwar Temple in Nashik has intensified. Following a letter sent by former trustee Lalita Shinde to the rural police opposing the programme, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has now also raised objections.

The Archaeology Department has sent a notice to Trimbakeshwar Temple, stating that organising cultural programmes within the temple premises on Mahashivratri is illegal under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act. The temple authorities have been directed to seek permission from ASI Delhi before hosting such events.

Objection to VIP Darshan fees

In addition to objecting to the cultural event, the ASI has also raised concerns over the alleged Rs 200 VIP Darshan fee being charged at the north gate of the temple, calling it a violation of the AMASR Act. The Archaeology Department has urged the Devasthan Trust to take immediate corrective action, and officials from Delhi and Mumbai ASI offices have been informed to initiate necessary steps.

Former trustee opposes event

Former trustee Lalita Shinde has argued that there is no prior tradition of celebrity programmes at the temple and that such an event should not disrupt the religious atmosphere of Mahashivratri celebrations.

The programme titled ‘Shivstuti Nrityavishkar’ is scheduled to take place in the temple premises on Mahashivratri evening. However, neither the temple trustees nor Prajakta Mali have responded to the controversy so far.
