Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, conducted a detailed inspection and review of the ongoing Yard Remodelling work at Panvel station on Sunday. During his visit, the Minister announced that Panvel station will be developed into a Terminal station for long-distance trains, marking a major step forward in the strategic enhancement of rail infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The Panvel Yard Remodelling project is currently underway to significantly upgrade the station’s operational capacity. The project involves the construction of new lines and the comprehensive reorganisation of the existing yard layout to support improved train handling and facilitate seamless integration with the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

The development of Panvel as a terminal for long-distance trains is poised to reduce congestion at existing Mumbai terminals and provide greater connectivity to passengers in the growing Panvel region.

This initiative reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to expanding capacity, enhancing efficiency, and improving passenger experience across the network.
