Former India captain Virat Kohli was consistently performing well for the team in all formats. He has made India proud in front of the opposing team in many series. Under the captaincy of Virat, there were many such occasions when the opposition team succumbed to India. Only one thing was lacking in Virat’s captaincy that he could not succeed in winning the ICC trophy to the Indian team. This was the reason that the then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah and the chief selector wanted to remove him from the post of captain. After this, Virat himself resigned from the captaincy of T20.
Injustice done to Kohli
What happened to Kohli after he relinquished the T20 captaincy is a matter of discussion. There is no doubt that after World Cup 2021, Virat Kohli himself resigned from T20 captaincy citing workload management, but he wanted to continue as captain in Tests and ODIs.
But, at that time the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI said that they cannot make different captains for different formats. After this, the ODI captaincy was taken away from Virat Kohli and he himself decided to step down from the post of captain in Tests. After this Rohit Sharma was appointed as the full time captain of India in all the three formats.
Now the biggest question arises here that when Virat Kohli wanted to captain in ODIs and Tests after giving up the captaincy of T20, the BCCI had clearly refused the split captaincy. But, then after T20 World Cup 2022, how did BCCI get Hardik Pandya to captain T20?
