As the year of Delhi Assembly elections begins, political activities have intensified. On the first day of the new year, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). While writing a letter to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Kejriwal has raised questions on the policies and working style of BJP.
Main point of Kejriwal’s letter
In a letter written to Mohan Bhagwat, Arvind Kejriwal asked three important questions regarding the recent work of BJP. Also, citing media reports, he asked the RSS to clarify whether the Sangh will campaign for the BJP in the Delhi elections.
Main allegations made in the letter:
- Allegations of corruption and vote buying:
Kejriwal alleged that BJP leaders are openly trying to buy votes by distributing money. He asked, “Does the RSS support such acts?” - Issue of vote cutting:
His second question was that BJP is trying to cut off the votes of the poor, Dalits, Purvanchalis and slum dwellers. Kejriwal said that these people have been living in Delhi for years and their franchise is being attacked. - Accused of weakening democracy:
Kejriwal asked, “Does the RSS not think that this attitude of the BJP weakens Indian democracy? Does the Sangh consider this right?”
Reference to previous letter
This is not the first time that Arvind Kejriwal has written an open letter to Mohan Bhagwat. Three months ago, he had raised questions on the working style of BJP through a letter. At that time, Kejriwal had made sharp comments on issues like retirement of PM Narendra Modi, breaking leaders of other parties and inclusion of corrupt leaders in BJP.
Part of the strategy before the elections?
This letter of Kejriwal has come at a time when elections in Delhi can be announced any time. While Aam Aadmi Party remains in power, BJP is preparing to give a tough challenge this time.
- AAP’s position: Arvind Kejriwal is constantly attacking BJP and is making its development work in Delhi an election issue.
- BJP’s emphasis: BJP has also intensified the election campaign and is trying to strengthen its hold in various areas.
- RSS’s stance: According to media reports, RSS may campaign for BJP in Delhi elections.
Delhi election atmosphere
There seems to be a direct contest between Aam Aadmi Party and BJP in Delhi politics. Before the possible elections in February, all the parties are making strategies to win over the voters in their favor.
This letter of Kejriwal not only questions the BJP but also questions the neutrality of the RSS. It is clear from this political development that the round of allegations and counter-allegations will intensify in the upcoming elections.
