The Army Institute of Technology (AIT) is all set to celebrate its 31st Foundation Day on Monday (February 24). On this day, AIT will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr Kailasavadivoo Sivan, former Secretary of the Department of Space and former Chairman of the Space Commission. The Successful Young Entrepreneur Award will be presented to Preetpal Singh, an alumnus from the AIT 2002 batch. Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, GOC-in-C Southern Command, will be the chief guest for the function.

The ceremony will also witness the presentation of awards such as the COAS Best All-Round Student Rolling Trophy, Rajput Regiment Trophy for Best Innovation, GOC-in-C Best Girl Student Award for the topper in each branch, Rajshekhar Trophy for Best Sports Person (Student), Best Research/Consultancy (Faculty), Best Teaching Employee, Best Non-Teaching Employee, and others, as informed by Brig (Rtd) Abhay Bhat, Director of AIT Pune.

AIT was established when Gen BC Joshi, the then Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, recognized the need for an engineering college for the children of all ranks in the Indian Army, who face difficulties in pursuing their dreams due to constant transfers of their family heads and postings in remote areas.

AIT started with three engineering degree programmes in Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, each with an intake capacity of 60 students in 1994. Today, AIT has an intake of 480 students across five disciplines: Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Mechanical and Automation Engineering, and Robotics. AIT also offers an ME programme in Data Science. The institute is a residential campus spread over 30 acres, designed to ensure the overall development of students. Several active clubs help students cultivate their co-curricular and extracurricular skills.

The institute boasts one of the best placement records in the Pune region. Every year, top-tier companies from various industries visit the AIT campus for recruitment, including Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Mastercard, BNY Mellon, Deutsche India, Larsen & Toubro, and Godrej.
