Mumbai is set to host the global premiere of The Wonderment Tour, a large-scale live concert by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman. The event will take place at DY Patil Stadium on May 3, marking what is being touted as Rahman’s biggest live production to date.
Joining Rahman on stage will be singers Sukhwinder Singh, Jonita Gandhi, and Neeti Mohan. Organisers have hinted at more artists being added to the lineup, along with surprise acts planned for the evening.
The concert will also feature choreography by Shiamak Davar and aims to incorporate immersive technology and large-scale production elements. According to the organisers, the event will include a mix of Rahman’s past hits and newer tracks.
A few days back, in an interview with Mashable India, Rahman opened up about the upcoming and much-awaited concert.
“We’re getting popular dance numbers too. Chaiyya Chaiyya, there’s no concert without Chaiyya Chaiyya,” he said. “What’s happened in the past six or seven years is that the interactivity with the audience, the love, especially after COVID-19 has been phenomenal. Like what people like Jacob Collier are doing… even in India, people are so interactive, even in small gigs. They know every lyric and sing along,” he added.
The Mumbai concert is part of the Waves Summit and is being produced by Percept Live, Fairgame Entertainment, and Jo Entertainment, in collaboration with Rahman.
Tickets for the May 3 event are available on www.district.in and the District App.
Meanwhile, on the film front, Rahman has composed the music of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film Thug Life.
