Rahman and production company Madras Talkies are also surrounded by controversies. The Delhi High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 2 crore on the singer and has also accused them of copying the song. Famous classical singer Ustad Fayazuddin Wasifuddin Dagar has alleged that Rahman’s father and uncle mimic the composition ‘Shiva Stuti’ in 1978.
According to media reports, Indian classical singer Fayaz Wasifuddin Dagar, who was awarded the Padma Shri Award, filed a petition in the Delhi High Court in 2023. In this, he alleged that the song ‘Veera Raja Veera’ from the film ‘Ponyin Selvan 2’ is a copy of ‘Shiva Stuti’ composed by his father Nasir Fayajuddin Dagar and uncle Zaheeruddin Dagar. With them AR Rahman And there was a demand to ban the use of this song on other companies including Madras Talkies. The song was first recorded at the Royal Tropical Institute in the Netherlands in 1978.
Singer AR Rahman has denied all these allegations. Apart from this, the Madras Talkies team has also said that these allegations are baseless. He argues that the song ‘Veera Raja Veera’ from ‘Ponyin Selvan 2’ is inspired by the creation of Narayan Pandit Acharya in the 13th century. The film ‘Ponyin Selvan 2’ was released in 2023. Apart from Aishwarya in the film, the film also stars Chian Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Prabhu, Shobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lakshmi and Prakash Raj. Aishwarya played Nandini and Mandakini in the film.
