Social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, has made headlines once again after unfollowing everyone on Instagram. The move comes in the wake of her ongoing controversy surrounding comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent, where she recently clapped back at a contestant over an inappropriate remark.

Reddit users were quick to notice that Apoorva, who previously followed around 1,500 accounts on Instagram, has now reduced that number to zero.

Notably, just days before this dramatic change, she also unfollowed her close friends, content creators Rida Tharana and Sufi Motiwala, adding fuel to the speculation about her state of mind and potential fallout within her inner circle.

Amid the controversy, Apoorva has also been receiving death, sexual assault and harassment threats online.

India’s Got Latent controversy

For those who missed the controversy, it all began when Apoorva confronted a contestant on India’s Got Latent over an inappropriate comment related to female anatomy. While her reaction initially gained support, the situation escalated when another controversy erupted surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia.

Instead of condemning the remarks, fellow panellists, including Apoorva and Samay, encouraged the conversation. Soon after the videos from the episode surfaced on social media, they were slammed for the controversial and indecent jokes and for promoting ‘obscenity’.

Ranveer’s viral comment about parental intimacy led to multiple complaints and FIRs being filed and summons being issued by Maharashtra Cyber Cell, dragging several individuals, including Apoorva.

As netizens continue to dissect the developments, many are wondering whether Apoorva’s decision to wipe her following list is a strategic move to avoid further scrutiny or a personal response to the backlash she has faced.

Apoorva has not issued any statement regarding the controversy yet.
