Virat Kohli’s poor form with continued in Sydney as well. The former Team India skipper got dismissed for just 17 runs in the first innings of the Sydney Test. However at one point of time, things did not look rosy as he would have walked back to the pavilion with first ball duck only to be saved by TV umpire. The incident took place on the fifth ball of the eighth over. Kohli entered to bat at No. 4 in the first session of Day 1 of the fifth Test. He walked out with India being 17/2 as both openers walked back with disappointing scores. However, Kohli, for the very first ball of his innings, teased an outside off-stump delivery and edged it to second slip fielder Steve Smith.
The ball fell in front of Smith who dived to his right to scoop the ball off the turf for the man at gully. Although the Australians thought they had got Kohli, but TV replays showed the ball had touched the ground. Kohli was eventually dismissed for 17 runs.
Bumrah leads India’s fightback after Australian bowlrs dominance
After bowling India out for a modest 185 under tricky batting conditions, Australia failed to close out day one without a wicket at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). With Sam Konstas engaging in a tussle with Jasprit Bumrah in the dying minutes of the day, the latter responded by extracting Usman Khawaja in the final ball of the day to leave the hosts at 9/1.
Earlier Team India had Jasprit Bumrah walking out for the toss on day one of the fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney as reports of Rohit Sharma opting out came true. The right-arm speedster won the toss and opted to bat first, announcing two changes to their line-up, bringing in Shubman Gill and Prasidh Krishna for Rohit and Akash Deep. Scott Boland did the major damage with 4 wickets as India were bowled out for 186 runs in their first innings.
