The ‘Hazrat Khwaja Garib Nawaz Maharashtra Committee’ organised an anti-drug rally on January 3 in the Shivaji Nagar area to create awareness and promote a drug-free community.

The Shivaji Nagar police extended their full support to the campaign titled ‘Shivaji Nagar, Govandi Nasha Mukt Hoga: Mehnat Hamari, Madad Aapki’.
Senior Police Inspector Bapurao Deshmukh said, “Anti-drug campaigns are being conducted in every zone. We have a dedicated team for this purpose and regularly carry out operations in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, Deonar and Mankhurd.”

Yusuf Ansari, secretary of the committee, stated, “We have been running campaigns against drugs for the past one and a half years. The police have been doing commendable work against drugs. I appeal to the public not to fear individuals involved in drugs but to stay away from them.”

On August 13 Recently, 17-year-old Ahmed Pathan was killed by three individuals, including minors, in an incident linked to alleged drug cartels operating in the locality.

Social activist Faiyaz Alam Shaikh stated, “The police lack manpower. Another issue is that most of the time, the police take action against drug consumers rather than dealers. Even when they catch a drug dealer, they file the case as the person is a consumer. In Govandi, almost every house has a drug addict. Drug addiction has also led to an increase in crime in the area.”
