Copter Delay Stalls Black Buck Relocation Plan
Copter Delay Stalls Black Buck Relocation Plan |
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The forest department’s plan to capture black bucks from Shajapur district and relocate them to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary is in limbo due to a delay in receiving the modern helicopter needed for the operation. The department is still waiting for the helicopter, which would be used to chase and catch the animals.
Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Wildlife, L Krishnamurthy, stated that the responsibility for obtaining the helicopter lies with the aviation department. While the forest department had previously attempted to acquire the helicopter through a tender process, their efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
A South African team had been brought in long ago to assist with the capture and translocation of the black bucks. However, the team requires a modern helicopter to effectively chase the animals into enclosures before catching them. The necessary equipment for the operation has already been sent to Shajapur.
The growing black buck population in Shajapur has become a significant concern, as the animals are causing extensive damage to crops. Farmers have voiced their demand for a solution to the problem, prompting forest officials to devise a plan to relocate the animals to a more suitable environment. However, the lack of a helicopter has caused delay in the execution of the plan.
