Mahindra Group, which also houses automobile giant Mahindra & Mahindra, is one of the biggest corporations in the country. And the group’s chairman, Anand Mahindra, is not known as someone who minces his words. In fact, his activities on social media, particularly X, are part of India Inc folklore.

X User’s Fierce Words For Mahindra

In a recent interaction, that Mahindra had with an X user, the 69-year-old responded to criticism with utmost grace and humbleness.

In post by a verified X user, Sushant Mehta, while replying to one of Mahindra’s post went on a tirade against the carmaker and its leadership.

Mehta, in his post, said, “You better fix your ground-level issues of existing cars, service centres, spare parts issues, and employees’ behaviours first. Before showing sky-high shallow aspirations.”

‘No Aesthetic Sense’

Drawing from his own personal experience with the cars, the X user further added, “Every single product of yours is for those who don’t study and research, media is full with complaints, I won’t talk about looks of your products because that’s subjective still your cars stand nowhere at all near Hyundai when it comes to aesthetics.”

The user questioned the latest model and their aesthetic endeavour as well. According to Mehta, there is either no effort or they tend to overdo the making and designing. He also cited the example of the newly launched Be6e.

Anand Mahindra Responds

Responding to this criticism, Mahindra took to X and shared his thought, with a screengrab of the post in his reply.

Mahindra started his post by saying, “You’re right, Sushant. We have a long way to go. But please consider how far we have come.”

Defendsing his company, Anand Mahindra further added, “When I joined the company in 1991, the economy had just been opened up. A global consulting firm strongly advised us to exit the car business since we had no chance, in their view, of competing with the foreign brands that would enter. Three decades later, we are still around and competing fiercely.”

Fuel Our Fire

Despite the harsh words, Mahindra appreciated the criticism and said, “We have used all the surrounding cynicism, scepticism—and even rudeness, as in your post—to fuel our hunger to succeed. Yes, we have miles to go before we sleep. There is no room for any complacency, and continuous improvement will continue to be our mantra. But thank you for feeding the fire in our bellies.”

The X user later deleted his post and reposted Mahindra’s post.

In another post in the matter, the X user further clarified his action of the deletion of the post, he clarified saying, ” I deleted the mahindra tweet which I expressed my views about advising anand mahindra ji about my ranting on their product experience during my research, my views about looks, sorting basic niggles and customer experiences first, observed during my research after booking one last month.

He further added, “No, I do not hate mahindra, I love couple of their cars externally so much esp. Thar. But all I desire is a product as capable as some foreign brands before I put my money on it as I am really dream to get a niggle free indian car.”
