Amit Tandon has come a long way. He was a participant who was eliminated in the early rounds of the reality singing show Indian Idol. Now, he has recently released a single, ‘Attach’. He is also planning to release a dozen more singles. Personally, Amit has been attached to his wife, Ruby, and despite their many ups and downs, their bond has only become stronger with time.
Q. When and how did you first meet your wife Ruby?
A. We met on a social media platform called Friendster. It later became known as Facebook.
Q. What was your initial reaction when you met her? Did you instantly like her?
A. The first time I saw her profile, her pictures, and had a conversation with her on Skype, I was instantly drawn to her. Her beauty, combined with her strong personality and loving nature, had me hooked.
Q. What are the qualities that attracted you to her?
A. She is incredibly grounded, and her love for family and compassion for those less fortunate make me appreciate the amazing person she is. Her strong work ethic, along with her beauty—truly everything about her from head to toe—attracts me.
Q. Who played Cupid?
A. We were each other’s Cupid, as our whirlwind romance led to a love marriage in just six months.
Q. What was the ice-breaker?
A. I sang O Paalanhare from Lagaan, and she could sense the genuineness in my voice—realising that beneath my tough exterior, I’m a softie at heart.
Q. Who took the initiative to fix a date?
A. She flew from Chicago to India to meet me because I was shooting.
Q. Where did you guys go for your first date?
A. We went out for dinner and a late-night coffee.
Q. Who said I love you first?
A. I did.
Q. Would you guys fight during your courtship days and what were the fights about?
A. Not so much during our courtship, but soon after, we started having disagreements—mostly about not giving each other enough time.
Q. Who apologises first after a fight?
A. We both apologise depending on the situation. I have a bad habit of holding grudges, but she is usually the one who tries to calm my madness.
Q. Who proposed marriage and how?
A. While shooting for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, I asked the director to incorporate a scene where I got down on one knee and proposed to her in front of all the actors on the set. Thankfully, she said yes!
Q. Did you guys face any opposition when you decided to get married?
A. Yes, her family was against it since she is a Jat Sikh and I am a Hindu Punjabi. On top of that, she was a doctor (cosmetologist) and I was in the entertainment industry, which created another hurdle.
Q. Who is more possessive between the two?
A. She is 1000%.
Q. Who is the cleanliness freak between the two?
A. We’re both actually quite messy, but luckily, we have people who help clean up.
Q. Who is the more short-tempered between the two?
A. I am, but she has a temper when required—she’s a Scorpio, after all!
