Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the Waqf Amendment Bill will be re -introduced in the current session of Parliament. The bill was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in August 2024. The current budget session ends on 4 April, and only four working days remain. Speaking at Times Now Summit 2025, Shah said, “We will introduce the Waqf Bill in Parliament this session.”

Target against opposition, assurance of change in the scope of constitution

Amit Shah said that no one needs to be afraid of this bill, because the Narendra Modi government is revising it under the purview of the Constitution. Taking a dig at the opposition, he said, “Opposition is misleading Muslims. None of his rights will be curbed. They are just spreading lies.”

The Home Minister also said that it was necessary for the government to amend the current law, as the original Waqf law was made due to the politics of appeasement. Shah alleged that the Congress added such provisions to the Waqf Act, which were not in line with the spirit of the Constitution.

Dispute over Waqf properties and government status

Amit Shah also said that 123 major places in Delhi were declared Waqf property, and the historic Chandrashekhar Azad Park in Prayagraj was also nominated as Waqf property. He said that the government is bringing these decisions under the purview of the Constitution, while the Congress had distorted them for political gains.

Government’s stand on demonstration against bill

On the protests against the bill, Shah said that “everyone has the right to protest, but any dispute can be challenged in the court.” Taking a dig at the opposition, he said that under the current law made by the Congress, these decisions could not be challenged in the court, which was against the democratic process.

The Home Minister said that “whoever disagrees with this bill is free to challenge it in court.”

Approval from cabinet, will be presented soon

The Union Cabinet has recently approved the Waqf Amendment Bill, which includes amendments recommended by the JPC. With this, this bill is fully prepared to be introduced in Parliament to discuss and pass.
