Port Blair: On March 31, CID arrested 24 -year -old American tourist Mikhail Victorvich Polycov on the restricted North Sentinel Island of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for attempting to reach the endangered Sentineli tribe. Police said the American person had entered the Northern Santinal Island without permission. The Sentanellies tribes are considered to be the world’s last pre-neurological tribes which are not in touch with civilized society.
Police said the youth had reached Port Blair on 26 March and Kumar had left his boat from Dera Beach to North Sentinel Island from Dera Beach at 1 pm. He reached the Northern Centinal Island at ten in the morning.
Going to the island, he inspected the entire area with binoculars, but he did not see any tribal. After waiting in a boat for an hour, he landed on the beach for five minutes. They left coconut and cola on the beach, collected sand samples, made videos and returned to their boat. A local fisherman was seen by a local fisherman as soon as he reached the Kurma Dera beach at seven in the afternoon.
Police said this was not their first visit. Even before this, he has visited Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He had made complete preparations for this visit and reached the prohibited island using GPS navigation. In the last October and January, he also illegally made a video of the Jarwa tribes during his visits. The police have registered an FIR against him and kept him in police custody for further investigation.
American missionary John Alan Chow came to the island for the last time. In 2018, he was killed when he tried to contact the Sentineli tribals. His body is buried on the island itself.
