If the sun does not shine even for a day during the winter season, we have to face many problems, but there is a place in the world where the sun does not shine for 64 consecutive days during the winter season. Know what is the reason.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the sun did not shine around you for two months? How do you complete your daily tasks? What would life be like without sunlight even in the harsh winter? You might be wondering how it is possible that the sun does not rise for two whole months.

But it is true that there is a small town in Alaska, America, whose name is Utqiagvik. The sun will rise in this city after about 2 months from today. The sun last rose in Utkjavik on 18 November. Now the sun will rise in this city after exactly 64 days i.e. on 22 January. The city will remain in darkness for 64 days.

The city in Alaska where the sunset will last for 2 months

About 5 thousand people live in Utqiagvik, known as Barrow, located on the northern slope of Alaska near the Arctic Ocean. Due to its extreme northern location, the city spends several days each year without sunrise. On November 18, the sun set at 1:27 pm local time, now after 64 days on January 22, the sun will rise at around 1:15 pm, that too for only 48 minutes. After this the days will become longer rapidly.

But how is this possible?

Actually, the Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees on its axis, due to which sunlight does not reach some parts of it. Due to this, the northernmost and southernmost regions of the Earth experience a polar night each year, i.e. a period each year when the sun does not rise for several days. The duration of the polar night can range from 24 hours to almost 2 months.

How will people live without sunrise?

Without sunrise, the city would not be in complete darkness; The lights installed by the administration will normally remain illuminated during the day. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight affects the mental and physical health of the people living here. In addition, the region experiences extreme cold, during which it occurs that on almost a quarter of the days the temperature does not rise above zero degrees Fahrenheit.

The sun doesn’t set for 3 months

The special thing is that just as this city survives for about 2 months without sunrise, similarly the people here survive for 3 months without sunset. The sun will not set in Barrow i.e. Utqiagvik from 11 May 2025 to 19 August 2025. In fact, in many areas located at the North and South Poles of the Earth, it happens that for many days in a year, sunrise occurs only once and sunset also occurs only once.
