The long -running tariff fight between the US and China seems to be moving towards the end. US President Donald Trump has indicated that a strong and balanced trade agreement with China may be soon. On Thursday, Trump said in a conversation with reporters that he hoped that there would be a “good deal” between the US and China.
The statement came at a time when the Trump administration has increased tariffs on products imported from China to 245 percent. In response, China also increased the tariff on American goods and described these measures as ‘appropriate and valid’.
China said- decided to protect its interests
According to the fact letter issued by the White House, the decision to increase the tariff was taken after China’s response. Earlier, China’s products had a fee of up to 145 percent, which has now been increased to 245 percent.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Lynn Jiaan said the tariff started by the US, and China has only taken retaliation to protect its national interests. He asked the US administration itself how much tariff was actually imposed.
Other countries also under the purview of tariff war
This tariff dispute has also affected the relations of America and European countries. Recently, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni was on a visit to America and the tariff issue was discussed with Trump at the Oval Office. Trump said that it will not be much difficult to compromise with the European Union and the US may soon reach a deal.
Apart from this, more than 70 countries including India are also talking on tariffs and business related matters with the US. According to the Trump administration, India and the US are very close to a bilateral trade agreement. The agreement is expected to give new pace to trade between the two countries.
