The government has blown up the 22-story Hertz Tower in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. It was once the iconic building of the city. But now it has turned to dust. This building was vacant for the last four years. The building was heavily damaged by hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020 and has been vacant since then.

This building was earlier known as Capital One Tower. For four decades, this building was adding to the beauty of the city. But it was damaged by a devastating storm. In the presence of Lake Charles Mayor Nick Hunter, the bomb demolished the 22-storey building in just 15 seconds.

According to The Advocate report, the building’s owner and Los Angeles-based real estate firm Hertz Investment Group were in a legal battle with its insurance provider Zurich for years. The owner demanded an estimated cost of $167 million to renovate the building. However, the administration later demolished the building after the two reached an agreement.

In 2020, Hurricane Laura killed more than 25 people in the Lake Charles area. The city is located on the banks of the Calcasieu River and is two hours away from Houston. It has a population of about 80,000.
