Amar Upadhyay reprised his role as Ganga Thakur in Doree and returned for its second season, which premiered on January 21, 2025. The new season features a fresh star cast, including Priyanshi Yadav as Doree, along with Ishaan Dhawan as Maan Thakur, and Sreejita De as Rajnandini Thakur. Now, the latest reports state that Amar is quitting the show just a month after the second season’s premiere.
According to a report in ETimes, “Amar hasn’t been shooting much since the launch of the second season in December. Due to the storyline, he’s been underutiliSed. In fact, he only shot for a day in February. He also missed out on another popular project because of his contract with the show. After a recent closed-door meeting with the producers, Amar decided to leave.”
When asked about the same, Amar told TellyChakkar, “No comments, wouldn’t like to speak about it right now,” further fuelling the rumours.
Earlier, talking about Doree 2, Amar told ETimes, “I believe for a franchise to succeed, it’s essential to retain some actors from the original cast to maintain continuity and connection with the audience. Unlike films, where music can also create a recall value, in television, it’s the actors who carry that weight.”
Amar has been a part of several television serials including Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kyunkii Tum Hi Ho, Ishqbaaaz, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, and Molkki, among others.
