Alot (Madhya Pradesh): Police personnel in Alot are facing a serious housing crisis, forced to live in rundown quarters that are not suitable for families. Deployed for 24-hour duty to ensure public safety, these officers often have little time to rest or see their loved ones. The existing police quarters, built nearly 40 years ago, are in poor condition, with only 12 units available for about 50 staff members.
The Alot police station, located about 80 kilometres from the district headquarters, has quarters situated on a 10-bigha plot. These buildings, which were meant to provide shelter for officers and their families, are now falling apart, with leaking roofs and water pooling during the rainy season.
Many officers are forced to rent expensive homes far from their posts, making it difficult for them to respond quickly to emergencies. The distance means that in urgent situations, officers must be called by phone, which delays their response and can put public safety at risk. Despite repeated requests to senior officials and local representatives, no solutions have been put in place to address this urgent issue.

However, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced plans to build 25,000 police houses across the state, with 11,500 already in progress and 10,000 completed. The foundation stone for 144 houses has also been laid in Bhopal, showing a commitment to improving housing for police personnel.
Shankar Singh Chauhan, the police station in-charge of Alot, hopes that senior officers will prioritise the housing needs of local personnel. He proposes to prepare a plan for new housing facilities, stressing that better accommodations would improve police response times and overall morale. As it stands, the lack of proper housing for police personnel in Alot not only affects their well-being but also puts public safety at risk.
