Mumbai: A special court acquitted gangster Chhota Rajan after 20 years in the case of threatening the builder, giving a shock to the investigating agency CBI. The judge said that the prosecution had failed to prove the allegations, as there was nothing objectionable in the testimony of the witnesses to prove the case.

However, Chhota Rajan will remain in Tihar Jail as he was Mumbai’s Crime Reporter J.D.

Special Judge AM while acquitting Chhota Rajan on Thursday. Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA) Court Justice V.P. Patil said that the most reliable witness of the prosecution is not sure that the person who threatened the builder was actually small Rajan.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating the case said that real estate developer Nandkumar Harchandani had received several threats in the name of Chhota Rajan. In which he was asked to pay the dues of some industrialists. The prosecution said that Harchandani had taken the displeasure of the accused Chhota Rajan over the payment of money and hence the plan was made to teach him a lesson. Rajan allegedly asked Harchandani to stop working at the construction site through his colleagues. In September 2024, seven unidentified persons entered Harchandani’s office and shot his accountant, but he survived.

The court said that no criminal allegations were filed against the current accused during the testimony of two eyewitnesses submitted by the prosecution. “The most reliable witness against the current accused is Irshad Sheikh, who received an alleged threatening call from Rajan.” But during the cross -examination, he admitted that he was not sure that the caller was ‘Chhota Rajan’ or it was an important confession given by another witness. The judge said that it goes to the root of the case. The court said that it can be briefly said that the prosecution has failed to prove the crime of the accused.
