TDP decided to fully support the Waqf Amendment Bill

All three amendments suggested by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have been accepted in the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Along with this, TDP has decided to fully support the bill. Tomorrow the party will vote in support of the bill in the Lok Sabha. Along with this, JDU’s proposal has also been accepted. Therefore, it is now believed that Nitish Kumar’s party can also support the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.

1. The three amendments proposed by the TDP proposes to amend the provision related to the ‘Waqf’ by the ‘Waqf’, according to which, before the implementation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, any user registered by the Waqf will remain property vaqf assets unless the property is disputed or government property. ‘ This amendment has been included in the bill.

2. The TDP also proposed that instead of considering the collector as the last authority in Waqf cases, the state government may issue a notification of appointment of a higher officer from the Collector, which will investigate according to the law. Now this amendment has also become part of the bill.

3. The third major amendment was related to extending the deadline of digital documents. Now, if the proper reason for the tribunal delay is satisfactory, Waqf will get an additional 6 months to present digital documents. After accepting the TDP amendment, the party has decided to vote in support of the bill.

Voting will take place after an eight -hour debate.

The Waqf Amendment Bill was discussed in the meeting of the Working Committee (BAC) chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. While presenting the bill last year, the government proposed to send it to the joint committee of both houses. In the meeting of the Working Committee, the opposition sought 12 hours to discuss the bill, but since the statutory proposal to condemn President’s rule in Manipur is to be discussed, the Waqf Bill cannot be given more than 8 hours.
