Hardoi: A major rail accident was narrowly averted on the Lucknow-Bareilly railway line after an apparent attempt to derail the Doon Express was foiled. According to officials, unidentified miscreants placed iron nuts and large stones on the tracks under Pihani Road Overbridge in Hardoi on Saturday morning (March 1).

The alert locomotive driver noticed the obstruction, but the train managed to pass safely despite hitting the stones. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

How was the rail disaster averted?

Reportedly, at around 7:35 AM, as the train approached the Pihani Road Overbridge, the driver noticed suspicious objects on the tracks and slowed down. Despite hitting the stones, the train passed safely.

Police and RPF Launch Probe After Rail Sabotage Bid

Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Police and The Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams swiftly reached the spot, secured the area, and began evidence collection. Field teams gathered fingerprints and other clues to trace those responsible. Initial investigation revealed minor damage to the train’s engine, but a major accident was avoided thanks to the driver’s quick action.

Two Teenagers Detained, Motive Under Probe

According to reports, during a search operation, two teenage suspects were detained for questioning. Police are investigating whether the act was part of a larger plot or just mischief. Security measures, including increased patrolling, track inspections, and enhanced CCTV surveillance, have been stepped up to prevent further incidents, officials said.
