The world’s richest man Alan Musk’s company Tesla is going to launch its electric car in India soon. Recent media reports are claiming that Tesla has started certification and home -ology process for two of its electric cars in India. Homological is an essential process that proves that the vehicle meets security, emissions and road qualification standards set by the Government of India. Tesla has started the certification process for its two electric cars including model Y and Model 3. The American company will bring these cars to India by a fully manufactured unit route. This means that Tesla will now assemble them instead of manufacturing cars in India. The certification process is an important step for the company, as it shows that Tesla may soon start selling in the country.

How will Tesla’s electric car be in India?

Tesla model Y is an electric SUV. It will be launched with two variants. This car can be seen with a long range and excellent performance. This car will also get features like dual-motor all-wheel drive, 15-inch touchscreen and autopylot. On the other hand, the Tesla Model 3 is a battery electric mid-size sedan. This will be available in several variants, including rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This car will provide a range of more than 500 km over charging once.

Demand for electric vehicles increased in India

Sales of electric vehicles in India are expected to increase from 82,688 units in 2023 to 99,165 units in 2024. Tata Motors and JSW MG Motors Electric Car have emerged as two major companies in the market. Luxury EV segment also saw an increase in sales. In which brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Audi and Porsche sold 2,809 units in 2024, which was 2,633 units in 2023.
