28-year-old Indian fast bowler Akash Deep has impressed everyone with his bowling in Test cricket recently. Akash has played a total of seven test matches for India so far, in which he has taken 15 wickets. Although his wicket count could have been much higher, unfortunately some drop catches and the luck of the opposition batsmen kept his wicket column limited. Akash told that captain Rohit Sharma has full confidence in him.
In an interview to PTI, Akash Deep said, “Rohit bhaiya trusts me a lot. He says I think you can take wickets on every ball. He told me that even if we don’t get wickets, we have to stop the run rate.”
Akash has learned a lot from watching the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah, one of the best fast bowlers in the world. He said, “A lot can be learned by watching Bumrah. He kept giving me advice, which made it easier for me to bowl.”
The experience of bowling on Australian pitches has also been important for him. Akash said, “Before Australia, I had bowled only on Indian pitches, where there is not so much pressure on fast bowlers because we have excellent spinners. But bowling long spells abroad teaches you a lot about your bowling. You have to bowl according to the pitch and conditions. I think I have become a better bowler by bowling there.”
In the recently concluded five-match Test series against Australia, Akash played two matches. He took two wickets in Melbourne and three wickets in Brisbane, which is an indication of his growing ability.
