Air India Free Baggage Limit: Tata Group-owned airline Air India has changed its free baggage policy. Air India has reduced the maximum free baggage allowance for its lowest fare class as part of a series of initiatives taken by the Tata Group to turn around the loss-making airline of over Rs 50,000 crore. Air India has reduced the maximum free baggage allowance from 20 kg to 15 kg.
Information given in the notification
Passengers flying in Air India’s ‘Economy Comfort’ and ‘Comfort Plus’ fare classes will be allowed to carry 15 kg of check-in baggage, the airline said in a notification issued to travel agents. The new free salary limit has come into effect from Thursday.
Tata acquisition in 2022
Let us tell you that Tata Group has bought Air India in the year 2022. Before privatization, the airline used to give free baggage allowance of 25 kg, which was reduced to 20 kg last year. Now the free baggage limit of Air India has become at par with other airlines. However, other low-budget airlines like IndiGo, allow passengers to carry one bag.
Unlike these, Air India will allow its passengers to carry multiple bags. At the same time, civil aviation regulator DGCA has ordered that airlines should allow passengers to carry a free check-in bag of at least 15 kg.
Passengers paying higher fare will be able to carry more luggage
Air India will allow passengers paying higher fares under ‘Economy Flex’ to carry hand luggage up to 25 kg and will also provide them other facilities like no change fee on tickets.
Air India said this
An Air India spokesperson said that on routes like Delhi-Mumbai, there will be a difference of about Rs 1,000 in ‘Comfort Plus’ and ‘Flex’ fares, but there will be 10 kg extra luggage, zero change or cancellation fee, more loyalty points and free options. . The price offered for a better choice of seats is around Rs 9,000. Let us tell you that last year Tata had launched several fare brackets to reduce the losses of the airline.
This much charge will have to be paid for overloading!
Let us tell you that Air India charges Rs 600 per kg on excess baggage from passengers, which also includes GST charges. Passengers can carry up to 10 kg of hand luggage on board the plane, but if their luggage exceeds this amount, they will have to add it to the check-in baggage.
