A 26-year-old air hostess lost Rs.5.62 lakhs in an online fraud. She came into contact with a man, and they became friends. Later, she shared her nude photos with him. The man then asked her for money, which she paid. Subsequently, she learned that the man had chatted with her under a false name and ran his Instagram account under another identity. When she asked for her money back, he refused. Eventually, she approached the police and filed a complaint against him. The Powai police registered a case against Nishan Singh for allegedly cheating her. The case was filed on March 15.

According to the FIR, the victim works for Air India and resides in Powai. On August 9, 2024, she received a friend request on Snapchat from someone claiming to be Aarav Kapoor, who said he resided in Chandigarh. He claimed that he had a big business and that his parents had passed away in an accident. They chatted daily for almost a month and became friends. The accused gained her trust and asked for her nude photos, which she sent to him.

Subsequently, he told her that he needed money to repay his loan and cover various court cases. He asked her for money and provided a QR code. She agreed and transferred more than five lakh rupees to him. When she scanned the QR code, she realised that the name of the account holder was Nishan Singh. She grew suspicious. When she confronted him, he told her that the account was registered under his employee’s name.

In February 2025, she met him in Gurugram, where he confessed that his real name was Nishan Singh and that he operated various social media accounts under the name of Aarav Kapoor. Consequently, she asked him to return her money, but he refused. Eventually, she filed a complaint against him with the Powai police. The police registered the case under sections 318(4) (cheating) and 319(2) (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
