Indore/Pithampur (Madhya Pradesh): Representatives of trade and industry have suggested to 16th Central Finance Commission that an air cargo and aeroplane maintenance hub, skill development centre for women empowerment, data centre and multimodal logistics park should be set up in the region.
The Central government should extend more support to the State being a tribal and forest-dominated area. There is a need to promote agriculture and healthcare sector. The suggestions in these regard were given to the visiting team of 16th Finance Commission during a meeting held at Niryat Bhawan in Pithmapur SEZ on Friday.
The team of the Commission discussed in detail the issues related to industrial development and economic cooperation. Commission members Annie George Mathew, Dr Manoj Panda, Dr Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Commission’s secretary Ritwik Pandey, joint secretary KK Mishra, Indore divisional commissioner Deepak Singh and Dhar collector Priyank Mishra were also present in the meeting.
The representatives of trade and industry also sought support for the increasing cost in the R&D sector, stating the need for new investment and modernisation in the auto industry.
The representatives suggested new skill centres and funding for plastic recycling and biodegradable plastic manufacturing, improvement in railway connectivity to accelerate industrial development, support to the real estate industry, special attention to the needs of the textile industry, demand for duty-free local market, better infrastructure to strengthen the tourism sector.
They also expressed the need for more schemes for the development of small industries. Immense possibilities in industrial Development policy: MF of MPIDC Chandramouli Shukla, MD of MP Industrial Development Corporation, stated that there are immense possibilities for the private sector in it. He said that the meeting will give impetus to new opportunities in the direction of industrial development of the State and will help in conveying the demands of the industry to the Central Government.

Finance Commission member Annie George Mathew said that all the suggestions presented by the representatives of the industry will be considered.
