The specialty and cost of the project
The 88 km long access-controlled corridor will double the traffic capacity. Under this project, the distance between Agra-Gwalior will be reduced by 7% and travel time by 50%. The cost is also likely to reduce the cost. The cabinet approved this project in August 2024, which is part of the 8 high-speed corridor. The cost of the projects is ₹ 50,655 crore. It is estimated to provide employment to about 4.42 crore people directly and indirectly.
Tourism and connectivity will get a boost
The corridor will improve the connectivity of major tourist destinations like Taj Mahal and Agra Fort (Uttar Pradesh) as well as Gwalior Fort (Madhya Pradesh). The Greenfield highway with six-lane will start from village Deori in Agra and go to Susera village in Gwalior. Overlay, strengthening and road safety improvement work on the existing NH-44 will also be included in this project.
New highway development strategy
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is adopting the corridor-based highway infrastructure development model. Its purpose is to ensure better logistics efficiency and high quality user facilities. Different from the old project-based development method, this strategy is separated from the local crowds instead of local crowds Focus on improving the network.
