Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered an embarrassing defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025. This was the team’s fifth consecutive defeat. In their home ground Chepock Stadium, Chennai’s team could score 103 runs for just 9 wickets, which is its lowest score ever. After this Kolkata won the match by 8 wickets.
After this defeat, Chennai’s batting coach Michael Hussey boosted the morale of the players and made a strong statement in support of the team.
Hussey expresses trust in players
In the press conference after the match, Hussey said, “I still believe that we have the right players. We just have to help them gain confidence and continuity. After this we can move in the right direction, whether it is batting, bowling or fielding.”
Hussey also said that he expects the players to play their natural game and will not ask them to play different from their style.
“Players perform best in their own way”
The former Australian batsman said, “Our players have come to play in their special way in the IPL and they perform best in the same style. I am not trying to change their game style.”
She also rejected criticisms that Chennai was relying only on experienced players in her playing-11 and is not giving young players a chance.
Trust on middle order players
Chennai’s playing-11 includes Indian middle-order batsmen like Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dubey, Vijay Shankar and Deepak Hooda, who have not been able to leave the impact yet.
To this Hussey said, “We have been a player earlier who have been associated with Chennai and performed brilliantly in the last round of career, such as Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane. I am confident that the current players can also make a strong comeback.”
“The tournament is not over yet”
Hussey clarified that the team has not yet given up from the tournament. “Many times teams think that if you can’t win the tournament now, then the young players start trying. But we are not in that position right now. We are definitely not in the mood to give up.”
