Mumbai is set to witness another historic moment in the world of fashion as Vivienne Westwood prepares to host its first-ever runway show in India. Following Dior’s grand showcase at the Gateway of India in 2023, the legendary British fashion house will take centre stage at the same monumental venue on April 1, 2025.

This milestone event will not only mark a new chapter for the brand but also pay tribute to India’s rich textile heritage and traditional craftsmanship.

What to expect at the Mumbai showcase?

Vivienne Westwood has long been synonymous with avant-garde fashion and a commitment to craftsmanship. The upcoming show will reportedly present a stunning collection featuring couture pieces crafted from India’s finest natural fabrics, including hand-woven silks, Khadi cotton, and wool.

The use of Khadi, a fabric deeply rooted in India’s history and famously championed by Mahatma Gandhi, adds to the cultural significance of the showcase. These fabrics, sourced from Khadi India and Aaranya/Gwalior, will highlight the artistry of Indian weavers and their sustainable techniques.

The event will also serve as a tribute to the late Vivienne Westwood, the iconic designer who revolutionised fashion and played a pivotal role in the punk movement. Following her passing in December 2022 at the age of 81, the brand has been helmed by her husband, Andreas Kronthaler.

Under his creative direction, the upcoming show is expected to blend Westwood’s rebellious, avant-garde aesthetic with India’s deep-rooted textile traditions, creating a visual spectacle that bridges two rich design worlds.

A new era for fashion in India

With this grand showcase, Vivienne Westwood joins the growing list of luxury fashion brands recognising India’s influence on global fashion. As the country’s fashion industry continues to gain prominence, this event marks yet another step toward positioning India as a key player in the world of high fashion.
