Mira Bhayandar: The crime branch unit (Zone II) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have arrested a 41-year-old man hailing from Africa who was found to be in possession of narcotic substance mephedrone (MD) worth more than Rs.31.20 lakh.

A night patrolling unit led by police inspector-Shahuraj Ranaware spotted the African national loitering in suspicious circumstances opposite Agarwal Complex located in the Achole area of Nallasopara a little past midnight on Sunday.

The suspect who was trying to escape after spotting the patrolling jeep was nabbed by the police personnel after a hot chase. Upon frisking he was found to be in possession of 260 grams MD valued at Rs.31.20 lakh in the international market.

The accused has been identified as-David Oniyaka Chidalo (45). The police seized the contraband and registered an offence against Chidalo under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The police are verifying documents to ascertain the legality of his stay in the country and also trying to find out the source of the drugs and potential buyers. Meanwhile the custody of the accused has been handed over to the Achole police station for further investigations.
