Florida (US), April 17: In a shocking incident, Florida State University (FSU) sent out an urgent alert on Thursday (April 17) afternoon, warning students and staff about an active shooter near the Student Union. The message was sent shortly after noon through the university’s emergency alert system. There are reports that the suspect has been apprehended by the police. A video has also surfaced has also surfaced in which it can be seen that the police have arrested a suspect and taking him out of the university campus.

The alert said, “An active shooter has been reported in the area of Student Union. Police are on the scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures.” Around four students have been reported injured in the firing.

University officials told everyone nearby to stay where they are and not to come out until they get more information. They also urged the students at the university to seek shelter.

Communication Problems During Emergency

According to The Tallahassee Democrat, reporters tried to contact the Florida State University Police Department (FSUPD) but could not get through because the phone lines were busy. When they reached out to the Tallahassee Police Department instead, a spokesperson, Lt. Damon Miller, said they should call FSUPD.

The alert confirmed that police were either already at the scene or on their way at the time.

So far, there has been no confirmation from the police about whether any shots were fired. Authorities also haven’t shared any details about the suspect or what the situation looks like.
