Mumbai – Under the implementation of the new education policy in Maharashtra, Hindi has been made mandatory in the first grade in primary schools of the state from the new academic year. Later, Hindi will be made mandatory in a phased manner from second to fifth grade. In Gujarati and Marathi medium schools, Hindi will also be taught Hindi to children of first grade.
The implementation of ‘NEP’ in degree courses in state colleges will be effective from 2023-24. The state government has started preparing for the implementation of NEP in school level education as the next phase. The State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has prepared the state syllabus in pursuance of NCERT. Based on this, text books have also been prepared.
According to the state course outline, Hindi language from class 1 to 5 will be compulsory in Marathi and English medium schools. Apart from this, Marathi and English will also be mandatory in other medium schools along with the language of medium. Therefore, a child studying through Marathi or Gujarati medium will have to read Hindi from the first grade itself. There will no longer be primary and secondary divisions, but the standards will be divided into four levels.
Due to this decision, now the schools of Gujarati medium will be provided three -lingual education in Marathi and English medium schools. Earlier, English and Hindi were taught as education in Gujarati and other linguistic schools. But the proportion of Hindi studies in Marathi and English medium schools was low. However, now it will be mandatory to teach Hindi in these schools.
