Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday (January 6) alleged that a voting list scam was taking place in the national capital with voting for the state legislative assembly expected next month. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi claimed in a press conference that thousands of names were being added to the electoral rolls illegally.

“…When summary revision was going on – when booth level officers of election commission were going door to door, why they (voters) were not shifted? It’s clear that a conspiracy is being going on to cut the votes, in a wrong way… 10% votes to be added and 5 % to be deleted – this is the conspiracy that is going on…” said Atishi.

During the press conference, Atishi also asked Election Commission of India was not taking action in spite of violation of rules and malpractices.

“Why has the Election Commission not initiated any investigation yet when the evidence is in front of everyone? I wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner yesterday, mentioning the details of voter fraud that is happening in the New Delhi constituency. This voter (names) deletion and addition need to stop,” she said.

AAP is pulling all stops to retain its hold in Delhi Legislative Assembly as elections draw nearer. Currently, AAP has overwhelming majority in the 70-seat assembly with 58 MLAs. The BJP has 7 MLAs while 5 seats are vacant.

On Monday, Congress appeared to jump on the bandwagon of women welfare schemes and announced ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’. The Congress has said that if elected, its government will provide Rs 2500 to women in Delhi.

AAP has already announced its own scheme. In its ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’ AAP has promised an amount of Rs 1000 for women in Delhi. It has also promised that the amount will later be increased to Rs 2100.
