Pune: AAP Demands Action Against Illegal Tap Connections Causing Water Crisis in Dhayari |

Pune City Aam Aadmi Party President Dhananjay Benkar has raised concerns over the severe water shortage in Dhayari and its surrounding areas due to illegal tap connections on the main water line. Despite repeated attempts to remove these illegal connections, many individuals continue to reconnect the taps, leading to an ongoing water crisis, he added.

“The water supply administration has been unable to effectively address the issue, as the problem persists due to a lack of vigilance against those involved in illegal connections,” Benkar noted.

Benkar submits letter to PMC

Benkar has submitted a formal representation to Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, urging immediate action to break the illegal connections. He has also demanded strict legal measures be taken against those re-establishing the removed connections. The illegal taps are connected from the Barangani Mala well to the Dhareshwar Temple water tank and along the Dhangar Vasti line, which supplies water to Dhayari. As a result, the legal water supply is severely disrupted, with water being delivered at low pressure and sometimes only every few days.

Over one lakh residents in the area are suffering from this persistent water shortage. Benkar has emphasised that while the water supply department is taking some action, it has been insufficient and superficial.

He has called for concrete and permanent measures to resolve the issue within the next 10 days. If the problem is not addressed promptly, Benkar warned that a strong protest would be organized at the municipal office.
