Chandigarh Mayor Election: This time the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party could not beat the BJP in the Mayor elections of Chandigarh. BJP candidate Harpreet Kaur has won the election with a total of 19 votes. Apart from this, Premlata, the candidate for the post of Mayor of Aam Aadmi Party, has got 17 votes.

Uproar over ballot paper

In the initial hours of voting, there was a lot of uproar over ballot paper. From Chandigarh ward number 1, the councilor of Aam Aadmi Party questioned the ballot paper and alleged that there is a point on their ballot paper. With this allegation, he demanded a second ballot.

 

Alliance formed to defeat BJP

Significantly, the total number of members in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is 35. Along with 35 councilors of the municipality, MPs from Chandigarh also vote in the mayor’s election. A total of 36 votes were cast and 100 percent voting was held. If no vote is canceled, 19 votes are required to win the election. Talking about the number game, BJP is the largest party with 16 councilors. However, the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress formed an alliance to defeat the BJP and contested together.

 

A retired judge of the Haryana High Court was appointed as a supervisor

Apart from this, it was also taken care of that no vote should be canceled and no cross voting. Before the voting, both the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress party kept their councilors in the resort. The Punjab Police was eyeing the councilor of the Aam Aadmi Party, while the senior leaders of the party were eyeing the Congress councilor. In view of the disturbances in the mayor’s election last year, the Supreme Court has appointed retired judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court Jayashree Thakur as supervisor.
